IxLoad is specifically designed for testing application performance. Some key features:
  • A highly scalable, integrated test solution
  • Realistic IP traffic modeling
  • Highest traffic rate
  • Comprehensive layer 4-7 testing
  • Widest protocol coverage for application-aware devices
  • Ease of use

The mix and complexity of multiplay services that must be forwarded by modern network devices mandates the use of deep packet inspection (DPI). DPI devices look at every bit and byte of the packets they forward in order to implement subscriber- and service-based QoS policing, peer-to-peer bandwidth management, denial of service (DoS) and virus attack prevention, intrusion detection and prevention, and web and e-mail content filtering. Testing application performance of such capable devices requires even more capable test tools, in order to optimize each user's quality of experience (QoE).

Ixia's IxLoad solution is engineered to minimize the time needed to develop application performance testing, yet still maximize test thoroughness. This permits equipment manufacturers and service providers to get to market faster with higher-quality, faster-performing products. IxLoad thoroughly tests application-aware devices, measuring layer 4-7 performance of all types. A highly refined GUI makes test development and results analysis quick and easy - and reduces product and network certification time.

White Papers

  • Application Performance Testing - discusses the expanding complexity of networking devices that attempt to apply policy-based QoS policies to a growing number of multiplay services. The need for deep packet inspection is detailed, along with the impact of DPI on testing needs.
  • Strategies for Managing the P2P Phenomenon - the growth in P2P traffic and its high-bandwidth characteristics is discussed. P2P challenges for networking devices in a multiservice environment are described. Various solutions and test methodologies are explored, with special emphasis on the use of stateful, policy-based QoS management.

Presentations

  • Application Traffic Performance Validation - this presentation, presented as part of the Fall 2007 Ixia days tour, discusses the industry drivers for delivery of multiplay services. The requirements for application layer forwarding are detailed, including Triple Play traffic, peer-to-peer and security elements. The testing challenges are discussed, along with specific measurement requirements.

Brochures

  • Application Performance Testing - Enabling Scalable Delivery of Layer 4-7 Services - this brochure discusses multiplay forwarding and security devices. It explores how the need for detailed traffic analysis has made it necessary to move from simple stateful packet inspection to deep packet inspection. IP performance testing and QoE requirements and Ixia solutions are covered.
  • Ixia Testing Solutions - discusses Ixia's testing solutions for switching and routing, Triple Play delivery, IMS, data center operations, Carrier Ethernet, network assessment, and broadband access performance and conformance.
  • Ixia Platform - the Ixia chassis and load modules used to generate line-rate traffic and capture results.

IxLoad - a highly scalable, integrated test solution for assessing the performance of multiplay networks and devices. IxLoad emulates subscribers and associated protocols to ensure subscriber Quality of Experience (QoE). Protocols supported include HTTP, SSL, FTP, SMTP, POP3 and IMAP. In addition, IxLoad can be used to test critical aspects of the infrastructure, including DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, and LDAP services.

IxNetwork - characterizes the performance and scalability of routers and switches.

Ixia Platform (Chassis/Load Modules) - the Ixia chassis and load modules used to generate line-rate traffic and capture results.
